tcain profile D.I.Y. Travis Cain

This week’s DIY featured artist resides in the northern US; Travis Cain is a father of three as well as a toy designer who has worked with Kidrobot. His BFF toy was popular on the internet, illustration the irony of a relationship between a tree and a hatchet. Let’s hear what he has to say…

Travis Cain comes from Madison, Wisconsin which is best known for cheese and beer.

Back in the day, you thought of toys as cool; today you see them as cool & expensive.

As a kid my favorite toy was my Star Wars action figures.

My first ‘real’ job was working at the TV station my dad worked at.

Your favorite designer toy (by another artist) is Travela by Doze Green.

I choose to work with toys because I had some ideas and Kidrobot gave me the opportunity.

The best blank platform to work on is the Qee and the Munny.

The most exciting moment in your career so far has been meeting my idols and realizing they’re regular people.

Travis Cain is the most thankful artist / designer in the world

I dislike it when people assume they know.

I love it when an idea surprises me.

The thing that inspires me most is traveling and seeing other cultures.

Music has been most influential media on my art.

The most underrated designer / artist today is ROSTARR.

If I wasn’t working in toys, I would be designing something else.

One thing most people don’t believe about me is I have 3 kids.

When my fans read this questionnaire hopefully they will know they are loved.

All good ideas start with coffee.

My ultimate professional assignment would be to work with a brand like Nike or Adidas to design and brand a limited edition line of shoes and gear.

My day is not complete until I kiss my boys goodnight.

Filling out this DIY feature survey was thought-provoking. Thanks!
