D.I.Y. Ric Stultz D.I.Y. Ric Stultz

For this week’s DIY, we sent our questions over to Ric Stultz, one of our favorite illustrators working today. Stultz’s colorful, imaginative works carry a real sense of character and wit, and we can’t wait to hear what the mind behind these pieces has to say about himself.

Ric Stultz comes from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA which is best known for brewing beer.

Back in the day, you thought of toys as things to play with; today you see them as things to sit on shelves.

As a kid my favorite toy was Voltron.

My first ‘real’ job was graphic designer.

Your favorite designer toy (by another artist) is Invisible Plan by MARS-1.

I choose to work in art because I always loved to draw.

The best blank platform to work on is a sturdy piece of illustration board.

The most exciting moment in your career so far has been traveling to shows in NY and LA within the same month.

Ric Stultz is the most caffeinated designer/artist in the world.

I dislike it when things dont go well in the studio.

I love it when things go well in the studio.

The thing that inspires me most is music.

Japanese animation has the been most influential media on my art.

The most underrated designer / artist today is Marq Spusta.

If I wasn’t painting and illustrating, I’d probably be a marine biologist.

One thing most people don’t believe about me is how little I need to be happy.

When my fans read this questionnaire they will hopefully raise their glasses in a toast.

All good ideas start with a sketch.

My ultimate professional assignment would be doing an album cover for Warp Records.

My day is not complete until I walk my dog.

Filling out this DIY feature survey was very introspective.
