This week in D.I.Y., we send our questions over to the UK for a little sit down with Lunartik designer Matt JOnes, who talks toys, being tall and of course, tea.

Matt JOnes comes from Britain which is best known for Tea and a good English breakfast.

Back in the day, you thought of toys as things that I could break and put back together with glue maybe, today you see them as self-expressive art pieces, depending on the toy. I don’t play with anything any more, I just watch them collect dust and occasionally I clean them.

As a kid my favorite toy was Transformers, I just loved playing with them, and never got bored.

My first ‘real’ job was conceptual product designer for a small independent company based in Warwickshire.

My favorite designer toy (by another artist) is pupshaw & Pushpaw by Jim Woodring.

I choose to work with toys because it’s a good release of self expression.

The best blank platform to work on is a bear Qee.

The most exciting moment in your career so far has been unloading the lorry when my first batch of Lunartik’s came off the boat.

Matt JOnes is the most tea-loving designer/artist in the world.

I dislike it when I don’t have a good pen to work with.

I love it when I find a new pen that is exciting to use.

The thing that inspires me most is life’s struggle.

Posca has been the most influential media on my art.

The most underrated designer / artist today is I don’t know.

If I wasn’t doing what I’m doing, I’d probably be a Hair dresser or a set designer.

One thing most people don’t believe about me is how tall I really am, at 6 ft 4 in.

When my fans read this questionnaire they will hopefully please write to me and let me know what you think.

All good ideas start with a simple concept.

My ultimate professional assignment would be to be free.

My day is not complete until the last piece of brain falls happily to sleep.

Filling out this DIY feature survey was very nice and relaxing.
